Smith and Klika Earn SoCon Player of the Week Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its weekly volleyball awards today, and Wofford's Chloe Smith and Laney Klika were tabbed as the offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively. The selections are made by the league office.

It's the seventh time in program history Wofford has had two players selected in the same week, with the last time coming in 2022 (Kennedy Smith – offensive, Victoria Hensley, defensive). Smith picks up her second offensive player of the week honor of the year and the third of her career. Klika earns her second selection in a row and the fifth of her career. Wofford has had a player selected in three consecutive weeks to start the season.

Chloe Smith, a junior outside hitter from Louisville, Kentucky, totaled 49 kills across three matches this past week to lead the SoCon. Her rate of 4.65 points per set was second best in the conference. Smith started the week off with her third double-double of the season, posting 11 kills and 12 digs against Coastal Carolina. She followed that up with a season-high 21 kills on a .391 hitting percentage and three aces against South Carolina. In a 3-1 upset over Clemson, Smith notched 17 kills, 14 digs and four blocks for her fourth double-double of the season.

Smith ranks 37th in the nation and second in the conference with 150.5 points this season. Her 22 service aces are the most in the conference and rank 12th in the nation. She ranks top 100 nationally in seven different categories.

Laney Klika, a senior libero from Novelty, Ohio, led the SoCon with 5.15 digs per set last week. In a tough five-set loss against Coastal Carolina, Klika posted 23 digs and two service aces. On Saturday, she went for 20 digs and six assists against South Carolina. Klika closed out the week with 24 digs and five assists in a 3-1 win over Clemson.

Klika currently holds a SoCon best 5.31 digs per set, ranking her third in the nation. Her total of 186 digs leads the SoCon and places her sixth nationally. She has reached double-digit digs in 36-straight matches dating back to last season, including five in a row this season with 20 or more. Klika surpassed 1,500 career digs over the weekend, moving her to third all-time in program history.

The Terriers will have a five-match road stint starting with the High Point Invitational this weekend. Wofford will take on High Point on Thursday, September 17, at 6:00 p.m. before a matchup with Wake Forest on Friday, September 18, at 4:00 p.m.
