Wofford vs. Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman Sugar Rodgers led five players in double-digit scoring with 25 points as the Georgetown Hoyas earned a 90-57 win over the Wofford women’s basketball team Saturday.

Wofford opened the game with a quick score to take a 2-0 lead, but it would be the Terriers’ only lead of the game, as the Hoyas quickly evened the score at two and took a 5-2 lead off a three-pointer at the 18-minute mark. Wofford would tie the score at five off their own three-pointer from senior Kristin Bradley, but less than a minute later Georgetown would regain the lead with a good layup.

Georgetown maintained the lead for the next five minutes, before the Terriers were able to narrow the lead to one point off a Mahagony Williams’ layup that brought the score to 14-15 with nine and a half minutes left in the half. The Hoyas took a six point lead before Wofford was again able to bring the score within one, this time at 21-22 with less than six minutes remaining. The Hoyas would pull away again, leading by as many as 12 points before heading into halftime with a comfortable 38-28 lead.

The Hoyas continued to build on their lead in the opening minutes of the second half, going on an 8-0 run in the first two minutes to take a 47-28 advantage. Wofford could not contain Georgetown for the remainder of the contest, with the Hoyas leading by as many as 35 points before claiming the 90-57 win.

Rodgers’ 25 points led five Hoyas in double-digit scoring, as Georgetown scored 49 points off 42 Terrier turnovers. Latia Magee added 16 points, Jalessa Butler added 11 and Rubylee Wright and Monica McNutt each added 10 points. Magee also paced the Hoyas with five rebounds.

The Terriers were led by senior Natalie Gramblin and junior Mahagony Williams, who each recorded 13 points. Gramblin shot 11-12 from the free throw line, while Williams went a perfect 6-6 from the field and added one free throw. Williams also led the team in rebounds with five, while freshman Daniella Motley helped pace Wofford with five boards. Senior Kelly Dwyer notched six assists for the Terriers.

With the win, Georgetown improves to 5-2 on the season while Wofford falls to 1-4 overall. The Terriers will travel to Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on Gardner-Webb Tuesday, December 1. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
