Wofford vs. Davidson Box Score
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Wofford women’s basketball fell to Davidson in Southern Conference action Sunday, after a 17-5 run in the early part of the second half gave the Wildcats the advantage they needed to claim a 90-68 win.
The Terriers scored a quick two points to open the game, but the Wildcats answered with a basket of their own to bring the game to the first tie of seven in the first half. From there the teams traded baskets, leaving the score tied at five before the Terriers grabbed an 8-7 lead off a three-pointer from Maddie Helms.
The third tie of the game came at 8-8 when the Wildcats’ Kristen Johnsen made a free throw with 17 minutes remaining in the half. Davidson recorded a brief 4-0 run, but the Terriers answered with four points of their own, bringing the score to an even 14-14.
A jumper from Davidson’s Sophia Aleksandravicius sparked a 17-7 run for the Wildcats, giving them a comfortable 31-21 lead with 7:08 left in the first half. The Terriers turned up the defense, holding the Wildcats scoreless for more than five minutes of play while going on an 11-0 run themselves to come out on top, with the score at 32-31 and 2:04 left to play.
Wofford took advantage of two key Davidson fouls, knocking down four free throws in the last minute and a half of play to keep the score within two heading into the half down 36-38.
The Wildcats opened the second half with a 9-3 run to take a 47-38 lead, but the Terriers stormed back with a 7-0 run, bringing the score with two points at 45-47. The two point deficit would be the closest Wofford would get in the second half, however, as Davidson responded with a 17-5 run, and would lead by as many as 25 points en route to a 90-68 win.
Freshman Aleksandravicius led four Wildcats in double-digit scoring with 26 points and paced the team with nine rebounds. Senior Julia Paquette added 15 points while senior Alex Thompson recorded 14 and added six assists and sophomore Chloe Woodington contributed 11.
The Terriers were led by junior Maddie Helms, who recorded 18 points. Seniors Kathlyn Varno and Kelly Dwyer and junior Ashley Kroker each added 10 points, a career high for Kroker. Varno paced the terriers with eight total rebounds, while Dwyer led the team with five assists and added five rebounds.
With the win, Davidson improves to 3-7 overall and 3-1 in Southern Conference play while Wofford falls to 1-8 on the season and 0-4 in league play. The Terriers will continue their eight-game road trip with a non-conference matchup against Wake Forest on Saturday, December 19.
