CHARLESTON, S.C. – Despite a strong opening run, the Terrier women’s basketball team fell 65-52 to the College of Charleston Cougars in Southern Conference action Monday.

The Terriers opened the game with an 11-2 run behind four points and four rebounds from sophomore April Moorhouse in the first five minutes.

The Cougars responded with 17 unanswered points, capitalizing on several Terrier miscues to take a 19-11 lead. College of Charleston’s defense held the Terriers scoreless for nearly five minutes during the run until a three-pointer from Kelly Dwyer at the 10:51 mark broke the dry spell.

A jumper from Moorhouse put the Terriers within two points, bringing the score to 26-28 with 4:31 remaining in the half. The Cougars ran off another six unanswered points in a three-minute period, helping them to a comfortable 39-27 lead at the half.

Dwyer paced the Terriers with nine points in the first half, while Moorhouse added eight points and paced the team with five rebounds.

College of Charleston ran off six straight points to open the second half, giving the team a 45-27 lead. Senior Natalie Gramblin opened scoring for the Terriers with a two-pointer at the 18:01 mark, then proceeded to score three off a good jumper and free throw to bring the score to 47-32.

The Terriers were able to bring the score within 10 points with 7:28 remaining, but could not break into the single-digit deficit. College of Charleston continued to score from the field and claimed the 65-52 win.

College of Charleston was led by Brooke Kotcella’s 15 points. Deidra Jones added 11 points and paced the team with six rebounds, while Jade Hughes contributed 12 points in the win.

Natalie Gramblin paced the Terriers with 13 points while Kelly Dwyer added 11 points and led the team with six rebounds. Sophomore April Moorhouse scored eight points and grabbed six boards for Wofford. The Terriers were plagued by 33 turnovers in the contest.

With the win, College of Charleston improves to 11-5 overall and 6-2 in the Southern Conference while Wofford falls to 2-12 on the season and 1-6 in league play. The Terriers return home to host Georgia Southern on Saturday, January 16 in a 3:00 p.m. tilt.
