SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College football team held their first workout of the 2010 season on Monday evening. Ninety players worked for two hours in helmets and shorts, primarily on position drills.
The team reported to campus on Sunday, with several meetings held on Sunday night. A conditioning test was held on Monday morning, with the first practice beginning at 6:15 pm. After two days in helmets, the team will practice on Wednesday and Thursday in helmets and shoulder pads before putting on full gear on Friday afternoon.
“We had a good practice,” said head coach Mike Ayers. “We had a conditioning test this morning and then we came out this evening. The temperature was good, so we felt like the guys were moving around pretty well. I think for the most part the players are in good shape. We started out the practice with conditioning and we are going to make sure we are one of the most fit teams in the country and we are going to do our best to do the fundamentals well. We are really stressing the fundamentals from everything from blocking to steps and angles.”
The 2010 season begins with a road trip on September 4 to face Ohio University.
