SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College and Capturion Network have begun the installation of a new LED video board at Gibbs Stadium. The new video board will take the place of the original scoreboard in the north endzone.

The video board was turned on for the first time on Thursday, September 16 and the football team conducted a practice on the field to get accustomed to the video and new sound system.

The video board is a gift from Jimmy and Marsha Gibbs. The Gibbs family has a long friendship with Wofford College spanning two generations. They also provided the lead gift for the stadium’s construction in 1996.

Overall, the LED board will be 57 feet wide and 22 feet tall, making it one of the 30 largest video boards in all of college football. The overall size of the entire unit, including sound system and advertising panels, is 57 feet by 30 feet tall. The football display system will use Capturion’s newest P22 Discrete LED technology using 22mm full color LED with a 784x308 pixel matrix. The technology and its control system will allow for complete flexibility in programming, operating as single giant display or divided into multiple zones (windows) to show a wide variety of statistics, information, graphics, animation, and live and recorded video.

In addition to the video board, the project also includes a new sound system for Gibbs Stadium. While the speakers will remain center-mounted above the board, they will be configured in order to provide optimal sound for all areas of the stadium. A new video control room has been constructed in the press box that will provide live game video and replays on the board, as well as the online broadcast available on TerrierVision All Access. A new game clock and play clocks are also a part of the upgrade.
