SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Led by April Moorhouse’s career-high 23 points the Wofford College Terriers snapped their four-game Southern Conference skid with a 76-67 win over the College of Charleston Cougars Thursday night in Benjamin Johnson Arena.

Moorhouse, who was the second Terrier this season to score 20 plus points in a game, has scored in double-digits in eight straight games and 11 total times in the 2010-11 season.  It was the most points a Terrier had scored in a game dating back to the 2006-2007 season when Kelsi Koenig scored 27 points against North Carolina A&T on November 20 and the most points scored in a SoCon game since the 2004-2005 season when Ricaye Harris scored 23 points against UT-Chattanooga on December 20.

Moorhouse finished the game 8-of-16 from the floor and and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.  She also addd a team-high six rebounds.  Rachel Brittenham and Maddie Helms chipped in 13 points and 12 points respectively for the Terriers.  All 13 of Brittenham’s points came in the second half.  Brittenham, the current SoCon assists leader, also handed out five assists and four steals.

For the Cougars, it was all Janae Smith, who scored 33 points by going 11-of-26 from the field, 2-of-5 from three and 9-of-12 from three.  Her 33 points tied the Division I record for points in a single game.  It is the second time the Terriers have allowed an opponent to break their schools Division I scoring record.  Smith was the only College of Charleston player in double-digits.

Wofford opened the game with a 14-4 run six minutes into play.  Three minutes later, the Terriers held their largest lead of the game, 22-6, on an Ashely Kroker layup.  The Cougars would battle back and trim the lead to eight, 29-21, on two Smith free throws with five minutes to play, and would pull as close as four points, 32-28, on a Megan Fischer three with two minutes until half.  Wofford, however, would five points of the half to take a 37-28 lead into the break.

In the first half, the Terriers were 45 percent from the field compared to the Cougars 26 percent.

In the second half, the Terriers extended their lead to 48-35 on a Logan Morris layup five minutes into the half.

However, the College of Charleston would battle back into the game again pull within four points, 54-50, on another Fischer three with 8:14 remaining in the game.  On the Terriers next possession, Helms drained a three to stop the Cougars momentum. After a Smith layup, Brittenham nailed a three to give Wofford a seven point lead, 60-52.  The lead would never dip below six points over the final six minutes of play as the Terriers, not only haulted their SoCon losing steak, but snapped their three-game losing streak with the 76-67 win.  The win also ended a six-game slide to the College of Charleston dating back to the 2006-2007 season.

Wofford finished the game by going 46 percent from the floor, 36 percent from three and 76 percent from the free throw line.  The College of Charleston finished 32 percent overall, 24 percent from three and 82 percent from the line.

With the win, the Terriers improve to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in SoCon play, while the Cougars fall to 4-12 overall and 1-6 in SoCon action.

Wofford will return to the hardwood Sunday, January 16 against the Elon Phoenix with tipoff schedule for 3 p.m. in the BenJo.
