CHARLESTON, S.C. – Alissa Williams earned All-Southern Conference Freshman Team honors with a new Wofford school record, as the Terrier women’s team had their highest finish since 1998 at the Southern Conference Cross Country Championship. The Wofford men took tenth place with Trey Parker setting a school record with a time of 25:42.90.
The women’s ninth place finish was their highest at the SoCon Championship Meet since 1998 when the team finished 8th.
Williams’ time of 18:11.50, earned her 29th overall good enough to give her Southern Conference All-Freshman Team honors.
Trailing Williams on the women’s side was Alyssa Burkert, who ran an 18:31.40 in 42nd, and Sam Hughes, who ran an 18:48.00 to finish in 50th. Nicole Klasnic crossed the finish line in 60th with a time of 18:56.90, while Katie Kessler completed the Wofford top with in 72nd with a time of 19:21.90.
UNC Greensboro claimed the top women's spot, with Furman and Elon second and third respectively. Appalachian State and the College of Charleston took fourth and fifth, Western, Samford and Davidson earned sixth, seventh and eighth. Georgia Southern finished tenth with Chattanooga and The Citadel in 11th and 12th.
On the men’s side, Parker’s time of 25:42.90 broke his own school record by one second and gave him 40th place on the day. Mavrick Harris finished in 59th with a time of 26:28.81, and Matt Menard took 65th with 26:37.44. Russell Baker, 26:53.37 in 69th, and Justin Whitaker, 27:09.40 in 74th, completed the Terriers top five.
UNC Greensboro took the men's SoCon title, with Davidson and Furman second and third respectively. Appalachian State and Chattanooga finished fourth and fifth completing the top five. Western Carolina and Elon finished tied for sixth, with the College of Charleston and The Citadel in eighth and ninth. Samford finished behind Wofford in 11th.
The tenth place finish tied for the best finish since joining the SoCon for the men's squad.
