BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Logan Morris’ 17 points paced the Terriers for the second consecutive game as Wofford set a new school record to start the season at 6-0 with a 58-50 win over Gardner-Webb Saturday afternoon in the Paul Porter Arena.

The Terriers snapped the record currently held by the 2001-02 and 1992-93 teams, who started their seasons at 5-0.

Wofford opened the game with a 9-0 run on a three from Mariah Masalin, Rachel Brittenham jumper and layup, and a Daniella Motley jumper three minutes into the game.  Following a Runnin’ Bulldog basket by Brianna Dillard, Motley knocked down another two to push the Terrier lead to 11-2 at 15:58 remaining in the half.

Gardner-Webb mounted a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 11-7 three minutes later, but Lauren Kirby jumper ended the run with a jumper and Morris followed up with a basket to give the Terries a 15-7 lead at the 12-minute mark.

After an Eliana Scanlon layup for the Runnin’ Bulldogs to make it 15-9, the Terriers used an April Moorhouse layup and Morgan Wrightson sparked a 7-0 run as Wofford took a 13-point lead, 22-9, at the seven minute mark.  Gardner-Webb couldn’t cut into the lead over the remaining seven minutes in the half as the Terriers took a 29-17 lead into the break.

Wofford was 48 percent from the floor (13-of-27), 30 percent from three and missed on their three free throw attempts.  The Terriers held the Runnin’ Bulldogs to just 26 percent overall (6-of-23).

Coming out of the half the Terriers immediately pushed their lead to 14 points, 31-17, on a Moorhouse jumper.  Wofford held the 14-point lead, until Gardner-Webb rallied trailing 35-21 with 16:07 to play and trimmed the Terrier lead down to six points, 36-30, four minutes later.

Wofford responded with a 6-0 run sparked by a Morris three that gave the Terriers a 42-30 lead with 10:23 to play in the game.  Wofford’s lead hit 14 points, 48-34, at the seven-minute mark, only to see Gardner-Webb mount a 6-0 run to trim the lead to 48-40 with just over five minutes remaining.

Wofford pushed the lead back to 14 points, 58-44, on a Morris layup with 2:22 and held to claim the eight-point win, 58-50.

Wofford finished 50 percent overall, 33 percent from three and only 23 percent from the free throw line (3-of-13).  Gardner-Webb ended the game at 38 percent overall and 60 percent from the charity stripe (12-of-20).  The Runnin’ Bulldogs missed on all four of their three-point attempts.

Morris’ 17 points paced the Terriers for the second consecutive game as she had 15 points against Southern Virginia in the team’s last game.  She was 7-of-8 from the floor, 2-of-3 from three and made one of her two free throw attempts.   It is also her second consecutive game where she scored 15-plus points coming off the bench for the Terriers and a new career-high.

Wrightson added 15 points, and Moorhouse chipped in 12 points.  Wofford has now had three or more Terriers score in double-digits in all six of its games this season.  Motely grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, while Brittenham handed out a game-high six assists.
