SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College baseball team began spring practice on Friday afternoon in preparation for the 2012 season. On Saturday and Sunday the team will have scrimmages at 3:00 p.m. each day.
“I am looking forward to the start of the season,” said head coach Todd Interdonato. “Since I have been our head coach this is the hardest working group of individuals we have had and I really feel like they are starting to take ownership of their success, which gives our coaching staff a lot of excitement moving forward.”
Wofford returns six position starters from last season along with eleven returning pitchers. Overall, 23 players return to the squad from the 2012 season and there are eleven newcomers.
“In the fall we put our emphasis on individual development and individual skill sets,” said Interdonato. “As we move to the spring we really put the focus on the team philosophies, such as team defense and team offense. All of the things that you have to work as a collective unit in our game at will be our focus for the next three weeks.”
The Terriers regular season will begin at home on Friday, February 17 against Kentucky. Wofford will begin the Southern Conference slate on March 16 in a road series at the College of Charleston.
