DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Wofford women’s soccer team was defeated 2-1 on the road by the Davidson Wildcats Friday night. A second half goal proved too much as the Terriers fall to 6-8-2 and 1-6-2 in conference play, while Davidson improves to 7-7-3 and 5-3-1 in the SoCon.
Davidson opened the scoring in the 7
th minute when Stephanie Piperon was able to score off a loose ball inside the 18 yard box to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Davidson’s lead would last most of the first half until Maggie Bosley was able to score her second goal of the season in the 43
rd minute to tie the score 1-1. Bosley was able to score past Wildcat goalkeeper, Rachel Locke, with a shot into the top corner. At the break with the score tied at one, each team had taken five shots and zero corner kicks.
After half time, each team pressed to score again but it would be the Wildcats who would score the game-winner in the 62
nd minute. Piperon was able to find the back of the net for the second time in the game with a shot from outside the 18 yard box that deflected off the far post past Wofford keeper, Kimberly Cohn. Wofford continued to attack in the final 20 minutes of the game but were unable to score again on the Davidson defense. In the second half, Wofford held the edge in shots (8-5) but it was Davidson who earned the one goal victory.
Kimberly Cohn gets the loss for Wofford and drops to 0-4-2 this season. Rachel Locke gets the win for Davidson and improves to 6-6-3 for the year. She recorded four saves on 13 shots faced.
The Terriers return to action Sunday, October 21 when they travel to Statesboro, Georgia to face the Eagles of Georgia Southern. The match is set to kick-off at 2:00 p.m.
