DAVIDSON, N.C. – Wofford had all nine players score for the sixth time this season despite a 63-39 loss to Davidson Monday night in the John M. Belk Arena in a Southern Conference game.
The loss drops the Terriers to 11-15 overall and 4-13 in the SoCon, while Davidson improves to 20-17 and 16-2.
Davidson took an early 9-3 with two baskets from Sophia Aleksandravicius, and a three-point play from Jasmine Calin with 14:48 left in the half. However Wofford answered with a 5-2 run to trim the lead to 11-8 on a three from Mariah Masalin two minutes later.
Davidson responded with a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 16-8 before Daniella Motley knocked down a jumper for the Terriers with 10:15 to play to cut the lead to 16-10.
Davidson’s lead hit double-digits, 27-14, following two layups from Barbara Sitton and a three from Lillian McCabe with 3:42 left in the half. Morgan Wrightson made a layup with 2:07 left to pull the Terriers within 11 points, 27-16. The layup was Wofford’s first points in five minutes.
Following a Motley free throw, Laura Murray made the final basket of the half on layup to give the Wildcats a 29-17 halftime lead. The layup ended a 3:20 scoring drought for Davidson.
Coming out of the half, the Wildcats went on an 8-2 run highlighted by four points from Murray as they took a 37-19 lead with just under 14 minutes to play. Wofford’s Motley answered for only the Terriers second basket in the opening 6:15 of the second half.
Davidson extended its lead to 22 points, 43-21, on three straight points from Amanda Ottaway with 10:11 left, but Motley cut the lead back to 20 points, 43-23, with her sixth point of the half on an elbow jumper a minute later. Motley had all six of the Terriers points in half.
The Wildcats pushed the lead to 48-24 before Logan Morris knocked down a three with just under eight minutes to play to cut the lead to 21 points, 48-27.
Both teams with on 4-0 runs with all of Wofford’s points coming from Moorhouse to keep the 20 point lead, 51-31, for the Wildcats with 5:41 left in the game.
Wofford was unable to chip away at the lead as Davidson claimed the 63-39 win.
Wofford finished the game 23 percent from the floor, 21 percent from three and 75 percent from the free throw line, while Davidson ended 40 percent overall, 25 percent from behind the arc and 61 percent from three.
The Wildcats held a 49-33 rebounding advantage and a 42-14 advantage on points in the paint.
Davidson had three players score ten points in the win: Aleksandravicius, Murray and Shneeka Center. Alexksandravicius completed with the double-double with a game-high ten rebounds.
Wofford was led by Motley with ten points, while Wrightson followed with nine points. Motley also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Moorhouse followed with eight points giving her 842 career points and moving her into 17th all-time.
Wofford returns home for their final home game of the season against Furman on February 22 at 6 p.m. The Terriers’ lone senior, Moorhouse, will be honor before the game.
