Wofford Slips To Furman, 72-53

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women’s basketball team dropped a 72-53 Southern Conference game to Furman on Wednesday night in the Benjamin Johnson Arena.
 
Neither could pull way as the Paladins held a 6-4 lead through the first six minutes of play and extend the lead to 8-4 a minute later with two free throws from Brigid Morrssey.
 
Furman kept the four-point lead, 10-6, following a Sarah Durbaler basket with 12:17 on the clock, but April Moorhouse cut the lead to two points, 10-8, with a layup a minute later.
 
The Paladin’s used pressure as they push their lead to 16-8 following a baseline jumper by Durdaler with 8:37 to left in the half.
 
Wofford chipped away and cut the lead to 18-14 on an Erin Frost layup, but Furman answered with two free throws from Brittany Hodges at the six-minute mark to extend the lead to 20-14.
 
The basket sparked an 8-2 run for the Paladins as they lead hit 27-16 with just under four minutes left.  Two free throws from Daniella Motley ended the run and cut the lead to 27-18 30 seconds later.  Furman ended the half on a 4-2 run as they took a 31-20 lead into the half.
 
The Paladins came out of the half with a 6-2 run as they pulled ahead 37-22 just under two minutes into play.
 
Furman pushed the lead to 17 points on a three Durdaller with 15:35 left, and hit 20 points, 49-29, on another Durdaller three at the 14-minute mark.
 
Wofford couldn’t close the gap as Furman held the 21-point lead, 54-33, with 11:22 following a Terrier layup from MarIah Masalin.  The Paladins pushed the lead to 61-34 following a three-point play from Kaitlin Murphy with just over eight minutes left to play.
 
Wofford pulled within 21 points, 65-44, on a three from Erin Frost and Logan Morris with just under six minutes to play.
 
The Paladins held the lead as they took the 72-53 win.  Furman finished 45 percent from the floor, 39 percent from three and 71 percent from the free throw line, while the Terriers ended 40 percent from the field and from three and 56 percent from the line.
 
On Senior Day, Wofford’s lone senior, Moorhouse paced the Terriers with 11 points.  Rachel Brittenham also had 11 points and three assists.  Morris followed with ten points.  Motley grabbed a team high eight rebounds.
 
Hodges led Furman with 21 points, and Reagan Thompson followed with 13 points.
 
Wofford will end its season with a two-game road trip starting at Elon on Saturdya, February 25 at 2 p.m. and ending at UNCG on Monday, February 27 at 7 p.m.
