Men’s Soccer Adds Two More to 2012 Signing Class

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford men’s soccer head coach Ralph Polson has announced the addition of two more student-athletes to the 2012 signing class.    The Terriers have added Ben Bruggeworth and Matthew Tran to bring the incoming class to a total of 11 individuals.

Ben Bruggeworth HS
Ben Bruggeworth is a goalkeeper from Greensboro, N.C., where he has been a part of the squad at Westchester Country Day School all four years.  In the 2011 season, he led his squad to a 19-5-1 overall record and an appearance in the state semifinals.  He posted 11 shutouts on the season to earn All-Conference honors.  In 2010, he helped lead his team to the 2A state championship. He has also been the starting goalkeeper for the PTFC Black Premier club team, helping his squad win the 2011 CASL Tournament, and is also a part of the North Carolina Olympic Development Program (ODP) team.  Bruggeworth also lettered in swimming and golf at Westchester Country, earning All-Conference honors in 2012 in swimming.  He intends to major in finance while at Wofford.

“Ben is a goalkeeper that came to us late that will bring great size and athleticism to the position,” stated Wofford men’s soccer head coach Ralph Polson about Bruggeworth. “He has a tremendous work rate, which we think will bring a great rate of competition to the team.  He will add a great deal of quality and depth to the goalkeeper position.”

Matthew Tran HS
Matthew Tran joins the Terriers from Augusta, Ga., where he has been a midfielder/defender at Lakeside High School, starting all four years.  He has been named to the All-Region and All-Area teams three times, and in 2011 was named the All-Region Player of the Year.  He has led his squad to the region finals from 2009-2011, taking the region championship in 2010.  He has also been part of the GYSA club team, helping the squad earn a top-10 ranking in the state, and also has experience with the Georgia ODP team.  Tran is intending to major in biology while at Wofford.

“Matthew is an experienced defender that has played at a very high level,” said Polson on Tran. “He is a very smart technical player, as well as a physically gifted player. We feel very fortunate and excited to have him come to us as we feel he has the ability to contribute early on.”

The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to Wofford College and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
