Baseball Wins 5-4 Over Presbyterian

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford College baseball team faced Presbyterian College on Thursday night at Fluor Field and won 5-4. The Terriers built a five-run lead in the third inning and were able to hold on for the victory.

Wofford is 6-6 overall and Presbyterian is 5-9 overall. The Terriers had six players with one hit each, while Taylor Rozier had two RBIs. Brandon Yarusi had seven strikeouts in the win. The Blue Hose had five players with one hit each, while Kenny Bryant had two RBIs.

Both teams were retired in order in the first inning. The Blue Hose had the first hit of the night in the top of the second. In the bottom of the second, Eric Brenk hit a double for the Terriers, but he was stranded on third to end the inning.

In the bottom of the third, Matt Moore led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. He stole third and scored on a base hit bunt by James Foster for a 1-0 lead. A walk and single loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly by Konstantine Diamaduros plated another run to take a 2-0 advantage. A single by Taylor Rozier drove in two runs for a 4-0 lead. Eric Brenk stole home to make it 5-0 at the end of three innings.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Blue Hose got on the board in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded after a single and two walks, a walk to Gabe Grammer plated a run for a 5-1 score.

In the seventh inning, both teams left one runner on base. Presbyterian added a run in the top of the eighth when Tony Micklon reached on an error that scored Gabe Grammer from second base. A two-run blast by Kenny Bryant over the right field fence cut the lead to 5-4. Wofford went in order in the bottom of the eighth. In the top of the ninth, the Blue Hose had one runner on base as the final batter was struck out by Eric Eck.

Wofford starter Brandon Yarusi (0-2) went seven innings and gave up one run on three hits with seven strikeouts. Ryan Traylor allowed two runs in two-thirds of an inning, while Dominick Del Monte gave up one hit and a run. Eric Eck picked up his third save of the season in 1.2 innings with two strikeouts and one hit allowed.

Presbyterian starter Beau Dees (0-2) worked six innings and allowed five runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Buck Mosteller went the final two innings and allowed only one hit with three strikeouts.

The Terriers will host Eastern Kentucky for a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and continuing Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
