DAVIDSON, N.C. – In a pitcher’s duel on Friday night, the Wofford baseball team lost 1-0 to Davidson at Wilson Field. Wildcat pitcher Henry Sisson threw a no hitter, while Terrier pitcher Brandon Yarusi allowed only one run on the night. Each pitcher went the complete game and had nine strikeouts in the contest.
Wofford is 14-20 overall and 3-10 in the Southern Conference. Davidson is 12-19 overall and 4-12 in conference play. Jake Berman had two hits for Davidson, while Michael Zeblo had a home run.
Both teams were retired in order in the first inning. Wofford left one runner on base in the second, third, and fourth innings. The Wildcats opened the bottom of the fourth inning with two singles, but two strikeouts ended the scoring chance.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats got on the board with a solo home run by Michael Zeblo over the right field fence. The run ended a stretch of 15 innings with allowing a run by Wofford pitcher Brandon Yarusi.
The Terriers stranded one runner on base in the top of the seventh and the Wildcats left two on base in the bottom of the seventh. Wofford was retired in order in the top of the eighth. Davidson had two runners on base in the bottom of the eighth, but both were left on base.
Wofford starter Brandon Yarusi (3-4) threw eight innings and gave up only one run on six hits while striking out nine batters to tie a career-high. Davidson starter Henry Sisson (2-1) threw nine innings and did not allow a hit with nine strikeouts.
Wofford will continue the series at Davidson on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
