Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Finish 7th at Mountaineer Open

BOONE, N.C. – Senior Sam Hughes and sophomore Ryan Doyle lead the way for each of their teams as the Wofford men's and women's cross country teams each finished in seventh place at the Mountaineer Open Cross Country meet hosted by Appalachian State University Saturday evening.

For the women, Hughes led the way with a 10th place finish in the 5K run crossing the finish line with a time of 18:44.07. In addition to Hughes, senior Alyssa Burkert finished in 38th crossing the line at 20:03.77 and junior Alissa Williams came in 53rd place with a time of 20:57.20.

Others that raced for the women were senior Carly Egan, junior Kiersten Ellsworth, and freshman Meghan Tillman.

For the men, Doyle crossed the finish line first for the Terriers in the 8K run finishing in 27th place with a time of 26:39.38. In addition for the men, sophomore Alex Michaels finished in 36th with a time of 27:27.29, and junior Hunter McGahee finished in 40th place with a time of 27:50.42.

Others that ran for the men include junior Justin Whitaker and freshman Jonathan Rice.

The men's and women's cross country teams will return to running on Friday October 18th when they travel back up to Boone, N.C. to take part in the Blue Ridge Open. The race is set to start at 3 pm.
