BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – The Wofford men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2013 Southern Conference Championships Saturday morning hosted by Samford University. The women's team finished eighth out of eleven teams in the 5K while the men finished tenth of ten teams in the 8K race.
Leading the way for the women, senior Samantha Hughes finished in 17th place with a time of 18:40.55. Senior Alyssa Burkert finished in 31st place with a time of 18:59.22.
Also competing for the women were senior Carly Egan, junior Alissa Williams and Kiersten Ellsworth, and freshman Meghan Tillman.
For the men, sophomore Ryan Doyle led the way with a 42nd place finish crossing the finish line with a time of 26:50.58. Fellow sophomore Alex Michaels finished in 53rd place with a time of 27:14.37.
In addition to Doyle and Michaels, senior Ben Boyles, juniors Hunter McGahee and Justin Whitaker, sophomore Kyle Hofmann, and freshman Jonathan Rice also competed in the race.
The cross country teams will return to action on November 15 when they travel to Charlottesville, Virginia to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regionals. Times of the races will be announced later.
