Brittenham Breaks Wofford Career Assists Mark in 63-44 Loss to Chattanooga

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Rachel Brittenham broke the Wofford career assists record in the first half against Chattanooga, but the Lady Mocs handed the Terriers a 63-44 loss Monday night Benjamin Johnson Arena.
 
Brittenham broke record previously held by Libby Corry at 449. Her record-breaking assist came on a pass to Jordan Frazier at 9:09 to play in the first half that led to a three point play.
 
Wofford got off to a hot start three and a half minutes into play as the Terriers made four of their first seven baskets including three from Daniella Motley to give the team an 8-0 lead.  Chattanooga answered with a 10-0 run including a three from Taylor Hall to take a 10-8 with 10:30 showing on the clock.
 
Motley ended a seven-minute scoring drought with an offensive rebound and basket and Jordan Frazier converted a three-point play to send the Terriers on a 9-3 run and give Wofford a 17-13 lead with 7:30 left in the half.
 
Chattanooga cut the lead to 20-19 on two free throws from Kylie Lambert, but Morgan Wrightson pushed the Wofford lead back to four points, 23-19, on a three from the wing on the Terriers next possession at the two-minute mark.  The Lady Mocs closed out the half with a 5-0 to take a 24-23 lead.
 
UTC came out of the break with a 15-4 run to extend the lead to 39-27 with 14:26 showing the clock.  Wofford got a basket from Motley on a pass from Wrightson to cut the Lady Moc lead to 39-29 on the Terriers' next possession.
 
Trailing 41-32, Wrightson trimmed the lead to six points, 41-35, on a jumper and a free throw with 10:17 on the clock, but Tatianna Jackson converted a three-point play to send the Lady Mocs on a 16-0 run to extend the lead out to 57-35 over the next five minutes of play.  
 
Brittenham ended six minute scoring drought for the Terriers with a layup with four minutes remaining to cut the lead to 57-37.  Chattanooga stayed in control over the final four minutes to earn the 63-44 win.
 
After shooting, 46 percent in the first half, Wofford finished the game at 33 percent overall, 13 percent from long range and 46 percent from the free throw line.  Chattanooga ended at a 38 percent clip from the floor, 50 percent from three and 65 percent from the line.
 
The Lady Mocs scored 27 points off of 23 Terrier turnovers, while Chattanooga only turned the ball over 13 times allowing Wofford 14 points.  UTC bench outscored Wofford’s bench 26-9.
 
Motley led the Terriers in scoring with 16 points and eight rebounds.  Brittenham also grabbed eight rebounds and scored nine points. 
 
Chattanooga had 11 of its 12 players scored including a team-high 14 points Alex Black.
 
Wofford finishes its current four-game home stand with Western Carolina February 11 at 6 p.m.
