KENNESAW, GA. – Senior midfielder Alex Kachulis scored the opening and winning goal as the Wofford women's soccer team opened its preseason with a 3-0 win Friday over Kennesaw State University at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
The Terriers got off to an early start and opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Kachulis scored on a header off of sophomore defender Katherine Whisenhunt's corner kick.
In the second half, sophomore midfielder Chloe Brackett stole the ball away from redshirt junior goalkeeper Jewelia Strickland and scored in the 59th minute to extend Wofford's lead 2-0. Junior midfielder Annika Jansson would score a free kick for the second goal of the half, and final goal of the game in the 71st minute making the score 3-0.
The Owls held the edge in shots (12-6) and shots on goal (5-4), but could not convert on its chances.
Both senior Kimberly Cohn and junior Kara Boggs saw 45 minutes in the match. Cohn played the first half facing five shots and made two saves. Boggs played in the second half facing seven shots and making two saves. For Kennesaw State, junior Nicole Calder and Strickland also split time in goal for the first and second halves respectively.
Wofford will return to action on Tuesday, August 13 when they travel to Ocean Isle, N.C. to play the University of North Carolina. The match is set to kick-off at 6:00 p.m.
