The Wofford rifle team competed in the first South Eastern Air Rifle Conference match of the season on Saturday at VMI. The team finished fourth (out of four teams) in SEARC and NCAA (out of seven).

The match represented the team's entrance into NCAA small bore rifle competition and results there were encouraging. 

Jim Stanley led the team in air and small bore with 540 in small bore (9th out of 33 shooters) and a 572 in air (11th out of 40 shooters). First year shooter Erin Lee and second year shooter Tommy McKelvey both fired 537 in small bore and 532 in air, Josh Mangan fired 508 small bore and 562 air, and Nygia Bost fired a 450 in small bore and 537 in air. Isaac Halverson also competed with a 515 in air. 

The University of North Georgia finished first in NCAA competition with 4453 followed by the Citadel Men (4451), VMI mixed (4390), Wofford (4320), VMI women (4061), Citadel women (4047), and North Carolina State (2322). 

The team will compete next at the SEARC 3 match on October 19 and 20 in Charleston, S.C.
