BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Wofford women's basketball team fell victim to 10 made 3-pointers by Samford and was defeated, 64-52, on Monday afternoon from the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford's triples halted every run the Terriers made to get back in the game. After cutting a 13-point lead to six midway through the second half, Hannah Nichols and Lydia McGee drained a pair of 3-pointers to pad Samford's lead back to 12. Sophomore Jordan Frazier hit a pair of her own to keep the Terriers around, but Samford's onslaught of threes continued. Kassidy Blevins, Clara Young and Nichols all connected on the next few trips down the floor, pushing Samford ahead 14 with three minutes to play and putting the game out of reach.

Nichols led the 3-point effort. Heading into the game, she was shooting 38.6 percent from long range with 27 made treys, ranking sixth in the Southern Conference. Nichols added to her success on Monday, shooting 6-of-9 from beyond the arc en route to a game-and-career-high 20 points. As a team, Samford was 10-of-21 from three for the game.

Three other Bulldogs (5-14, 3-5 SoCon) joined Nichols in double figures. McGee scored 12 points and dished out a game-high six assists, while both Blevins and Christy Robinson put down 10 points.

For Wofford (3-14, 1-6 SoCon), senior Logan Morris scored a team-high 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting, including 2-of-5 from beyond the arc. Morris added seven rebounds and tied her season-high of three assists. Sophomores Jordan Frazier and Ashton Fleming each put down eight points, and Fleming added a game-high eight rebounds.

The Terriers made seven threes on 21 attempts, but could not hang in with Samford's hot shooting. Despite the loss, Wofford head coach Edgar I. Farmer, Jr., was proud of his team's effort coming off of Saturday's loss at Chattanooga.

"I thought we played with a concerted team effort today, but just did not knock down enough shots to stem the tide." Farmer said. "There were a few times we traded baskets when we needed consecutive stops. We understand that if we take the effort from today and get better with the little things, we will be more successful down the road."

Both teams got off to a slow start on offense. With 12 and a half minutes gone by in the first half, Wofford led just 9-8. Nichols hit a pair of free throws to grant Samford the initial lead, but Fleming tied it up with her first points of the afternoon, hitting a fade-away jumper from short range. Junior Lauren Kirby gave the Terriers their first lead, 4-2, with a jumper from the elbow.

Samford's bench was issued a technical foul four minutes in. Frazier drove the lane and drew a lot of contact that resulted in a no-call, and the officiating crew issued a technical in the direction of Samford head coach Mike Morris. Wofford's Logan Morris went to the line and hit 1-of-2 to complete a 5-0 Terrier run.

Samford slowly got it back together as Wofford had trouble scoring. The Bulldogs finally knocked down their first field goal at the 13:08 mark when Ellen Riggins stole the ball from Frazier off a rebound and turned around for an easy layup. Two minutes later, Krista Stricklin got a steal and raced down an open floor to put Samford back on top, 6-5.

Wofford regained the lead midway through the half on back-to-back field goals from Aliyah Johnson and Morris. Stokes then put Wofford up 11-8 on a drive to the basket with 5:56 on the first half clock.

At the time, both teams had eight turnovers. Through the final six minutes, Samford did not commit another while the Terriers gave up four. Wofford had also already committed 10 fouls to put Samford in the double bonus, allowing the Bulldogs to go on a 17-8 run the rest of the half. It started with Nichols' first triple to tie the game and after two Samford free throws and a McGee basket underneath, SU had scored seven straight to lead 15-11.

Morris knocked down a 3-pointer with less than two minutes to play to cut the margin down to three, 19-16, but Nichols hit two big threes on Samford's next two trips. Junior Michelle Merritt scored Wofford's final three points of the half, resulting in the Terriers trailing, 25-19.

Nichols' trio of triples had her leading all scorers with nine points at halftime. Morris led the Terrier effort with eight, along with a game-high five rebounds. Wofford was hurt by committing 14 first-half fouls, which helped Samford to an 8-of-12 mark from the free throw line. Meanwhile, the Terriers were just 2-of-7.

Samford got the ball to start the second half and began by scoring the first seven points on 3-of-3 shooting. Stokes stopped the run with a drive to the basket, ending Wofford's 0-for-4 start with the Terriers trailing 32-21.

After Robinson went up for a lay-in to put SU back up 13, it started raining threes in the Pete Hanna Center. Morris, Stokes and freshman Maria Corella were all good on three consecutive Terrier possessions, while Samford answered with just one from Riggins. Morris then hit a jumper at the 13:15 mark, making it a five-point game, 37-32.

The three-ball changed hands. Six of Samford's next eight baskets over a span of 10 minutes were from beyond the arc. Nichols hit three of them and added a jumper from the paint, scoring 11 points during the stretch to give her team a 59-45 lead with 3:01 remaining. The Bulldogs shot 56.5 percent in the second half and closed out a 12-point win.

The Wofford women's basketball returns to Benjamin Johnson Arena on Saturday, hosting UNCG at 2 p.m.
