SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State came into Monday night's matchup against the Wofford women's basketball team ranked atop the Southern Conference in rebounding and used a plus-15 margin to defeat the Terriers, 63-43, in league action from Benjamin Johnson Arena.

Appalachian State grabbed 48 rebounds to Wofford's 33, eclipsing its league-leading average by eight. The Terriers trailed by five at halftime and cut the deficit to three in the first few minutes of the second half, but it was all Appalachian State the rest of the way. The Mountaineers went on a 12-3 run to grab a 12-point lead and outrebounded Wofford 28-15 in the second half to complete the game with a 20-4 advantage in second-chance points, earning their first SoCon win of the season.

Shooting was also a large factor in the outcome. The Terriers (3-11, 1-3 SoCon) finished the evening 27.6 percent (16-58 FG), while their counterparts shot 42.6 percent (23-54 FG). The Mountaineers (4-9, 1-2 SoCon) were also 3-of-7 from long range, while the Terriers struggled to a 1-of-15 showing.

Maryah Sydnor headed ASU with a game-high 21 points. Sydnor was 9-of-16 from the field and went for 10 rebounds to complete her seventh double-double of the season. The SoCon's leading scorer came into the contest averaging 19.8 points. KeKe Cooper grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and Joi Jones joined Sydnor in double-figure points with 10.

For the Terriers, sophomore Jordan Frazier wound up with a team-high 11 points. The SoCon's steals leader – averaging over three per game – came away with two steals and added two assists a game after marking a new career-high of six. Senior Logan Morris and sophomore Chanel Stokes each scored eight points, and Lauren Kirby grabbed a team-high seven boards.

Wofford grabbed the game's first lead on a made jumper by Kirby, but the Mountaineers tied it up courtesy of a Mia Marshall lay-in and took the lead for good on their next bucket. Both sides struggled to score early on, but it was Appalachian State that held a 10-2 lead at the halfway mark of the first period.

The Terriers got it together with 17 points in the opening half's final 10 minutes and trailed ASU 24-19 at the break. The half ended on a 5-1 Wofford run with all five Terrier points scored by Frazier, including an old-fashioned 3-point play with 56 seconds to go.

The halftime line saw Wofford being outrebounded by just two, 20-18. Frazier led the game with nine points, while Cooper had just five of her 13 rebounds. The Mountaineers were 10-of-26 (38.5 pct.) shooting and Wofford checked in at 7-of-27 (25.9 pct.)

Morris got the second half started with a layup 20 seconds in, and Frazier cut the deficit to three once more at the 18:19 mark with Wofford trailing 26-23. The Mountaineers then put together five straight points and, after freshman Kentra Washington sank Wofford's only trey of the ball game, App scored seven straight to complete a 12-3 run with a 38-26 lead.
