City of Spartanburg Proclaims Wofford Basketball Team Day

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Spartanburg Mayor Junie White declared Tuesday, November 18, Wofford Basketball Team Day, presenting men's basketball head coach Mike Young with a proclamation at Monday's city council meeting.

The Wofford men's basketball team hosts MAAC 8356preseason favorite Iona on November 18 at 7 a.m. inside Benjamin Johnson Arena as part of ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. Mayor White and members of the city council proclaimed the day to recognize the Terriers for their success over the last several years, and the national television exposure that will be brought to the city. The game will be televised to a national audience on ESPN2.

"Mayor White has been an incredibly loyal person to Wofford and a friend of ours many years," said Coach Young, who has taken the Terriers to three NCAA Tournaments over the last five years (2010, 2011 and 2014). "I'm very appreciative of him and members of the council for recognizing our basketball program and the college.

"ESPN being on our campus and in our city on Tuesday is another opportunity to show the country what a special and vibrant community we have here in Spartanburg. To fill the facility and make it a difficult environment for Iona would be special."
