CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Wofford College baseball team's run in the 2014 Southern Conference Tournament ended in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon with a 12-3 loss to Samford at Riley Park. The Bulldogs broke open a 3-2 game by scoring eight runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Wofford is 32-28 to end the season and were the #6 seed in the tournament. Samford, the #3 seed, is 35-24 overall and has advanced to the championship game on Sunday. Seth Neely had a pair of doubles and a home run to lead the Terriers. Six Bulldogs had two hits each, with Drew McWhorter and Caleb Bryson having a pair of RBIs.

"I thought we came out and gave it a look," said head coach Todd Interdonato. "We were definitely putting some pressure on them early and had our chances but weren't able to get the momentum on our side. Samford has been able to do that against us in the two games in this tournament. It seems like we've always been behind the 8-ball with those guys, where in the other two games, we were able to get out front and continue to put pressure. Staying behind those guys is tough because they are so well-coached and play such good baseball. We certainly gave ourselves a chance early on."

The game marked the final contest for the senior class – Eric Brenk, Eric Eck, Luke Feisal, Josh Hyman, Matthew Kaskow, Jesse Morris, and Seth Neely. With 32 wins, Wofford set the school record for wins in a season. The team also secured a winning record for the first time since 1992 (19-17). It was only the second appearance in the Southern Conference semifinals in school history.

"You hate seeing this group of seniors leave, but no regrets with those guys for me," said Interdonato. "These kids put together the best season in the 125-year history of this program. So, you won't say anything other than the fact that those guys are now the senior class that did what everyone was hoping this program was able to do, and they can hang their hats on that. The best part about it is if we're able to continue to build on that, those guys will be able to say they changed it."

The Bulldogs were retired in order in the top of the first inning. With one out in the bottom of the first, Seth Neely hit a double off the wall in left center but he was stranded at third to end the inning. In the top of the second, Samford had back-to-back singles with two outs. A fly ball ended the top half with two runners left on base.

Eric Brenk led off the bottom of the second with a double down the left line and Conor Clancey followed with a walk. The runners moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt and Derek Hirsch was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A strikeout and fly ball ended the scoring chance.

A sacrifice fly by Conor Clancey scored Hyman to make it a 3-2 game. Wofford left one runner on base at the end of the sixth inning.

The Bulldogs opened the seventh inning with a hit by pitch and the runner advanced to second on a wild pitch. A single by Drew McWhorter drove in the run for a 4-2 lead. After a double, a single by Caleb Bryson pushed the score to 5-2. A wild pitch allowed a run to score and a throwing error on a fielder's choice made it 7-2.
