CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Wofford volleyball team begins its quest for a Southern Conference Tournament title on Saturday, drawing UNCG in the quarterfinals. The match is set for 7:30 p.m., from Western Carolina's Ramsey Center.
Â
Wofford (16-17, 7-9 SoCon) is the tournament's No. 6 seed and UNCG (21-10, 11-5 SoCon) in the No. 3 seed. The Terriers dropped both regular season meetings to the Spartans in four sets, extending UNCG's series winning streak to 15 matches. Wofford's last series victory came in 2005.
Â
The Terriers won 16 matches in the regular season, their highest win total since going 18-14 in 2009.
Lynze Roos set the program's new Division I record for wins by a first-year head coach. Wofford's seven SoCon victories match the 2013 and 2005 teams for its most in the last 14 seasons.
Â
Wofford is led on the court by mostly underclassmen. Just one upperclassmen, senior
Jessica Graham, was in the team's usual starting lineup. Graham, a libero, finished the regular season with 582 digs, the most of her collegiate career. She would become with second Terrier in program history to eclipse 600 digs in a season with 18 on Saturday.
Â
The rest of Wofford's starting lineup expects to see four sophomores and two freshmen. Second-year outsides
Bella Santoro and
Alex Holland lead the attack with a combined 689 kills this season. Santoro leads the team with 355, including 2.89 per set.
Â
Starting setter
Molly Mayo, a sophomore, racked up 1,295 assists in the regular season and needs just 37 to tie the program's single season record held by Rhea DeJesus (1,332 assists in 2004). The final sophomore expected to start is middle
Danni Densford, who was third on the team with 266 kills, but led the way in hitting at .324. Densford also went for 94 total blocks, second-most behind freshman
Colleen Reilly.
Â
Reilly and redshirt freshman
Lauren Miller round out the lineup. Reilly had 118 blocks in the regular season, top 10 in program history, including a 12-block match that tied the program's single-match record against East Tennessee State back on October 17. Miller racked up 260 kills, 58 blocks and 35 aces in her first year of action after redshirting the 2014 season.

Fans that can't make it to Cullowhee can watch the match for free on the Southern Conference Digital Network. Should Wofford advance, they would play the winner of No. 2 Furman and No. 7 Mercer on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. The championship final is scheduled for Monday on ESPN3.
