Baseball Begins SoCon Tournament Wednesday

Wofford will open the 2015 Southern Conference Baseball Championship presented by Mountain Shore Properties on Wednesday, May 20 at 12:30 p.m. against #6 seed Furman ... The Terriers are a #3 seed, the highest ever for Wofford ... Also in the top half of the bracket are #2 seed Samford and #7 seed Western Carolina ... The Terriers concluded the 2015 regular season with a 36-20 record ... In the Southern Conference, Wofford is 13-10 with series wins over VMI, The Citadel, Samford, UNCG, and Furman, series losses at Western Carolina and ETSU, and a split against Mercer ... The Terriers third place finish in the SoCon standings is the highest in school history and the 13-10 record is the first winning league mark in school history ... Furman is 24-31 overall and 11-13 in the Southern Conference to earn the #6 seed ... Wofford won two of three games against the Paladins this season ... Samford is 29-24 overall and 14-10 in league play for the #2 seed ... The Terriers won two of three games against the Bulldogs earlier this season ... Western Carolina finished 21-28 overall and 11-13 in the SoCon for a #7 seed ... The Catamounts took two of three games from Wofford this season ... Wofford projected starters in the first two games will be RHP Matt Milburn (9-3, 3.61 ERA) and RHP Luke Leftwich (7-2, 4.39 ERA).

In the 2015 season, the Wofford baseball team returned five starters in the field along with 13 pitchers ... Overall 25 players returned to the team with 10 newcomers ... This is the eighth season under the direction of head coach Todd Interdonato ... Leading the team are five seniors: Connell Anderson, Conor Clancey, Matt Pelt, James Plaisted, and Matt Ramsay ... Junior RHP Matt Milburn is the top starting pitcher with a 9-3 record and a 3.61 ERA to earn All-SoCon first team honors from the media and second team recognition from the coaches ... Junior RHP Will Stillman leads the SoCon with 15 saves and has a 4.23 ERA in 27 appearances to earn All-SoCon second team honors from the media ... Junior RHP Luke Leftwich is 7-2 with a 4.39 ERA and a SoCon-best 105 strikeouts, while SoCon All-Freshman Team member LHP Adam Scott is 7-4 with a 4.07 ERA ... Senior designated hitter Matt Ramsay leads the team with a .373 batting average and 79 hits, as he was second team All-SoCon ... Senior outfielder James Plaisted is hitting .350 with 72 hits and 44 RBIs to earn All-SoCon second team honors from the coaches and media ... Senior first baseman Conor Clancey leads the SoCon in RBIs with 62 and doubles with 26, leads the team with 10 home runs, and is batting .328 on the season as he was named All-Southern Conference first team by the coaches and media ... Senior outfielder Matt Pelt is hitting .325, sophomore catcher Carson Waln is batting .317 and leads the team with 17 stolen bases, and sophomore outfielder Kody Ruedisili is batting .294.
