SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team fell to Mercer, 1-0, in overtime on Sunday afternoon at Snyder Field.

After the teams battled to a scoreless tie through the first 90 minutes, Mercer's leading goal scorer Maddie Clark found the back of the net in the second minute of the first overtime to give the Bears the 1-0 win. It was her ninth goal of the season.

As part of Senior Day, Terrier seniors
Mary Katherine Bradley,
Alex Hoots,
Tanner Kaplan,
Brianna LaFontant,
Bailey Masters, and
Hanna Socha were honored before the game.

Once the game began, Wofford came out strong, controlling possession for much of the first half. In fact, the Terriers attempted the first nine shots of the game, before Mercer put a shot attempt on the board.

Through the opening period, Wofford held a 12-3 shot advantage, while also attempting two corners, compared to zero for the Bears.

In the second half, Mercer slowly began to take control of possession, as they outshot the Terriers, 8-3, in the period. The Bears were also able to earn five corner kicks, after being held without one in the opening half.

Then, just two minutes into overtime, Clark was able to weave through a couple of Wofford defenders and found the back of the net from in close to give the Bears their second straight 1-0 road win.

Despite the loss,
Mayson Liner delivered five saves for a Terrier defense that was active throughout the contest. Offensively,
Elise Fennegan led the team with four shot attempts, while
Catie Slater pitched in three. On her senior day, defender
Brianna LaFontant contributed strong defense and added two shot attempts.
Up next, the Terriers will host Furman this Friday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. It will be the team's last home game of the regular season.
