SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed on Friday afternoon at the Royals Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, hosted by Queens University at McAlpine Creek Park.
Hannah Steelman won the women's race by setting a new school record.

The women's 5K race began the event and
Hannah Steelman took first place with a time of 16:27 to lower her school record by eleven seconds.
Mary Stewart Wilson was the next Terrier to cross the finish line in 18:36, followed by
Jamie Barnett (18:39),
Sommer McKenzie (18:41), and
Shannon McAndrew (18:47). Also competing were
Rebeka Fadgyas,
Madison Paraskeva, Mia Giradi,
Anna Lyles,
Whitley Elsass,
Ashley McCreary and
Anastasia Burroughs.

The men's 8K followed and
Jack Zemp led the Terriers in a time of 25:16 to place 56
th. He was followed by
Ford McCoy (26:22),
Ben Boatwright (26:45),
Beck Classey (26:46), and
Jack Moody (26:56).
Walker Gibbs,
Dane Szalwinski and
Nick Butler also competed for the Terriers.

The races featured nearly 50 institutions from Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, JUCO, and USCAA. Division I teams included College of Charleston, Davidson, Furman, Liberty, UNC Charlotte and USC Upstate. The Wofford women were 7
th out of 45 teams, while the men were 22
nd out of 43 teams.

Both the men's and women's teams will compete next at the Southern Conference Championship on Saturday, October 27 at Western Carolina.
