Baseball Opens 2018 Season Friday

The Terriers open the 2018 season on Friday afternoon against Kentucky ... It will mark the eleventh time in the last twelve seasons Wofford has opened the season at King Field ... Wofford will host Fordham on Saturday and Dayton on Sunday ... The games are part of a round-robin held in conjunction with USC Upstate ... Wofford was 28-20 overall and 13-11 in the Southern Conference last season ... Kentucky was 43-23 overall in 2017 and finished 19-11 in the SEC ... Their season ended with an NCAA Super Regional loss at Louisville ... This season they are ranked as high as #8 in the nation ... The Wildcats and Terriers are tied at 2-2 in the series ... Fordham was 27-24 overall last year and were 11-12 in the Atlantic 10 to finish ninth... The Terriers have a 4-3 lead in the series over the Rams ... Dayton was 20-35 overall last season and 9-15 in the Atlantic 10 to finish tenth ... Wofford holds a 10-9 lead in the series ... Wofford starters will be LHP Adam Scott (6-6, 4.92 ERA) against Kentucky, LHP Austin Higginbotham (6-5, 4.88 ERA) againstĀ  Fordham, and RHP Grant Byers (0-2, 9.00 ERA) against Dayton ... In the 2018 season, the team returns seven starters in the field along with nine pitchers ... Overall 20 players returned to the team with 13 newcomers ... This is the eleventh season under the direction of head coach Todd Interdonato ... Leading the team are nine seniors: McClain Bradley, Grant Byers, David Ehmen, Will Fuqua, Max McDougald, Alex Malsch, Cody Miller, Mack Nathanson and Adam ScottĀ  ... Among the pitchers, Adam Scott had 108 strikeouts in 15 startsĀ  with a 4.92 ERA ... Austin Higginbotham was 6-5 with a 4.88 ERA ...
