TAMPA, Florida –
Hannah Steelman became the first Wofford College track and field student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships on Friday night with an eighth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and she added a berth in the 5,000 meters on Saturday night. Steelman and
McLeod Dean both competed in the NCAA East Regionals hosted by the University of South Florida, marking the first time in school history two student-athletes reached the regionals.

Steelman, a freshman from Orono, Maine, qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday night in a school-record time of 10:00.70. She was eighth overall, with the top twelve advancing.

She ran the first heat of the 5,000 meters on Saturday night in at time of 16:18.32 to take fourth place in the heat. The top five in each of the two heats, plus the next two, for a total of twelve competitors advanced to the championship. Overall, her time was tenth overall among the 45 runners in the event.

Dean, a junior from Maryville, Tennessee, completed the 200 meters in 23.65 to finish 43
rd overall. She holds the Wofford school records in the 100 meters and 200 meters, both of which she won at the Southern Conference Championship.

The qualifiers out of the East and West regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 6-9 in Eugene, Oregon.
