EUGENE, Oregon – On Thursday, Wofford College track and field student-athlete
Hannah Steelman competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase semifinals in the 2018 NCAA Championships at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. She finished 14
th overall in the semifinals to earn second team All-America honors.

A freshman from Orono, Maine, Steelman ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a school-record time of 9:59.94. The top five in each of the two heats, plus the next best two times, advanced to the finals. Steelman was eighth in the first heat and 14
th overall, just missing qualifying for the finals by two seconds. The All-America honors are the first ever for a Wofford runner.

She also qualified for the 5,000 meters in a time of 16:18.32 to finish tenth overall in the regionals. The finals of the 5,000 meters will be held on Saturday at 8:25 pm ET with 24 competitors in the event.

Steelman is one of only nine student-athletes from the Southern Conference to qualify for the NCAA Championship, and the only one to qualify in two events. She is the first Wofford College track and field student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championship. Steelman is also one of only two runners, along with Allie Ostrander of Boise State, to compete in both the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000 meters this year at the championship.

The entire NCAA Track and Field Championship can be seen on the ESPN family of networks. The 5,000-meter final will be shown live on ESPN on Saturday night. Replays will be available on ESPNU and ESPN3 at various times as well.
