EUGENE, Oregon – On a rainy Saturday, Wofford College track and field student-athlete
Hannah Steelman competed in the 5,000-meter finals in the 2018 NCAA Championships at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. She set a school record in the event at 16:09.63.

A freshman from Orono, Maine, Steelman finished the 5,000 meters in 23
rd place to earn honorable mention All-America honors. She was one of only two freshmen in the field of 24 runners.

She also competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Thursday, earning second team All-America honors with a 14
th place finish.

Steelman was one of only nine student-athletes from the Southern Conference to qualify for the NCAA Championship, and the only one to qualify in two events. She was the first Wofford College track and field student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championship. Steelman was also one of only two runners, along with Allie Ostrander of Boise State, to compete in both the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000 meters this year at the championship.

In her first season with the Terriers, Steelman set eight school records – 5k (cross country), 6k (cross country), mile (indoor track), 3,000 meters (indoor track), 5,000 meters (indoor track), 1,500 meters (outdoor track), 5,000 meters (outdoor track) and 3,000-meter steeplechase (outdoor track). She earned a total of five All-Southern Conference honors (cross country, indoor 3,000 meters, indoor 5,000 meters, outdoor 1,500 meters and outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase). She was the SoCon Freshman of the Year in cross country and outdoor track and also won the Southern Conference championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
