SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College rifle team hosted Georgia Southern and The Citadel on Saturday morning at the Taylor Center Rifle Range. Despite having its best smallbore team score of the season and being second going into air rifle competition, Wofford finished third behind Georgia Southern after Wofford's lower air rifle performance proved not enough to best GSU.
The Citadel coed team won the match with 4542 followed by GSU (4486), Wofford (4461), and the Citadel women (3963).
Dan Wesson again led the Wofford effort in both smallbore and air rifle. Wesson finished first in smallbore with a PR 569 and air (579). Wesson finished the match second overall with an 1148 aggregate score.
Marcus Stallings finished eighth with 1111 (PR in air) and
Andrew Visconti finished in ninth place with 1105 (PR in smallbore).
Scott Condo (1097) and
Brandy Barnes (1068) also shot for Wofford.
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday, February 2, when they host North Georgia.
