NEW YORK, N.Y. - Heading into the Southern Conference Championship game on Monday night, the Wofford Terriers were ranked No. 20 by the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. The ranking is the highest for a SoCon school since Davidson was ranked No. 20 on October 21, 2008 in the preseason poll.
Wofford capped off its regular season by winning three straight road games, including an 85-64 victory over Samford on Saturday to set the program record for most wins in a regular season (26-4).
In Southern Conference Tournament, the Terriers have wins over VMI and ETSU. The finals will be against UNCG at 7:00 p.m. on Monday night on ESPN.
Wofford also reached its highest NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool) ranking on Monday, moving up to No. 14 overall. The NET, which replaced the RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) as the lead metric for the NCAA this season, takes into account strength of schedule, location of games, game results, efficiency and more.
The Terriers have moved up to No. 17 in Andy Katz's Power 36 and No. 17 in CBS Sports College Basketball Insider's Jon Rothstein Top 25, while sitting just behind No. 1 Gonzaga (AP Top 25) for the top spot in both the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 and Mid-Major Madness Top 25 polls.
Wofford is the smallest school to be ranked in the AP Top 25 since 1977 (VMI).
