SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Saturday afternoon, the Wofford College baseball team defeated Lafayette 13-3 at Russell C. King Field. The Terriers scored four runs each in the first and second innings and had a 9-0 lead after three innings in the victory.

Wofford opens the season 13-7, while Lafayette is 3-12 overall. The game marked the 300
th win in head coach
Todd Interdonato's career at Wofford. The Terriers were led by
Andrew Orzel with three hits, while
Ethan Cornelius had two hits and three RBIs.
John Dempsey and
Hudson Byorick each added two hits. Dan Leckie led the Leopards with two hits and a pair of RBIs.

The Leopards had two hits in the top of the first inning.
Andrew Orzel opened the bottom of the first with a single and moved to third on a pair of balks. Orzel scored on a single by
Hudson Byorick and
Brett Rodriguez followed with a walk. A walk to
John Dempsey loaded the bases with one out and a single by
Colin Davis drove in two runs for a 3-0 lead.
Ethan Cornelius had a sacrifice bunt that scored Dempsey for a 4-0 advantage at the end of the first inning. Lafayette stranded runners on the corners in the top of the second.

Andrew Orzel led off the bottom of the second with a single.
Hudson Byorick walked and on a failed pickoff attempt he moved to third and Orzel scored. A ground out by
Brett Rodriguez drove in Byorick for a 6-0 lead.
Lawson Hill added a single and a home run that cleared the fence in right field pushed the score to 8-0. It was Dempsey's third home run of the season. The Leopards were retired in order in the top of the third inning.

In the bottom of the third inning,
Matty Brown singled but was out on a fielder's choice by
Andrew Orzel. Orzel stole second and scored on a single up the middle by
Hudson Byorick for a 9-0 advantage. Both teams left one runner on base in the fourth inning. The Leopards began the fifth inning with a double and they pushed the run across with a pair of ground outs for a 9-1 score.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth,
Mike Brown singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. A single by
Andrew Orzel scored Brown.
Hudson Byorick reached on an error that allowed Orzel to cross the plate as Wofford took an 11-1 lead. The Leopards were retired in order in the top of the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, the Terriers had two batters reach on errors and one run scored for a 12-1 advantage.

Lafayette had a double with one out in the top of the seventh inning, but the runner was stranded. Wofford went in order to end the seventh frame. With two outs in the top of the eighth, the Leopards loaded the bases on an error, walk and hit by pitch. A single drove in a pair of runs to cut the lead to 12-3.
John Dempsey doubled with one out in the bottom of the eighth and
Colin Davis walked. A sacrifice fly by
Ethan Cornelius scored Dempsey for a 13-3 advantage. Three straight ground outs in the top of the ninth ended the game.

Hayes Heinecke (4-0) started for the Terriers and allowed one run on five hits in six innings.
Jake Dippold worked an inning with one hit allowed.
Anthony Garcia threw two innings with two unearned runs allowed on one hit.

Mark Anderson (1-2) started for Lafayette and went 1.1 innings with eighth runs allowed on six hits and four walks. Kyle Johnson worked 2.2 innings with one run allowed on three hits. Connor Jones threw two innings with three runs allowed on three hits. Frank Craska went the final two innings with one run allowed on one hit.
