SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College baseball team took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 7-6 win over Lafayette at Russell C. King Field on Sunday. The Leopards were up 6-2 at the seventh inning stretch, but the Terriers tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. A bases loaded walk scored the winning run for Wofford in the eighth inning.

Wofford is 14-7 on the season, while Lafayette is 3-13 overall. With the win, Wofford swept the weekend series. The Terriers were led by
Brett Rodriguez with two hits and two RBIs, while
Andrew Orzel added two RBIs. The Leopards had three hits each from Ethan Stern and Mark Glover.

Both teams left one runner on base in the first inning after singles. Lafayette was retired in order in the second and third innings, while the Terriers left one on base in the second and third frames. In the top of the fourth inning, the Leopards led off with a single and the runner advanced on a failed pickoff. An RBI single made it a 1-0 game. Another single and a sacrifice bunt put runners in scoring position. Bill Russo had a single with two outs to drive in both runs for a 3-0 lead.

Wofford led off the bottom of the fourth with singles by
Lawson Hill and
Colin Davis. Davis was caught stealing and Hill was stranded at third to end the inning. With one out in the top of the fifth, the Leopards had a double. After a ground out, a single drove in the runner for a 4-0 advantage. In the bottom of the fifth,
Mike Brown walked for the Terriers and stole second. With two outs a hit-and-run by
Hudson Byorick scored Brown to cut the lead to 4-1.

In the top of the sixth inning the lead-off batter was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. A double down the left field line drove in a run for a 5-2 lead. Wofford had one runner reach on a walk in the bottom of the sixth. The Leopards had a double and a single to begin the seventh inning. A run scored on a wild pitch to make it a 6-2 game with one out, but two runners were stranded at the stretch.

Matty Brown and a single by
Mike Brown. They advanced on a wild pitch and a single up the middle by
Andrew Orzel drove in both runners for a 6-4 game. Orzel stole second and scored on a wild pitch to make it a one-run game.
Brett Rodriguez singled and stole second and third base. A single by
Lawson Hill drove in Rodriguez to tie the game at 6.

Lafayette was retired in order in the top of the eighth inning. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth,
Mike Brown walked and
Andrew Orzel was hit by a pitch. A walk to
Hudson Byorick loaded the bases and a walk to
Brett Rodriguez gave Wofford a 7-6 lead. A fielder's choice ended the inning with three runners stranded. The Leopards were retired in order in the top of the ninth on a ground out and two strikeouts.

Cameron Bloodworth started for the Terriers and went 5.2 innings with five runs allowed on eight hits, while striking out one.
Jake Hershman threw two-thirds of an inning with one run allowed on two hit and a strikeout.
Reece Maniscalco (1-0) went the final 2.2 innings with one hit allowed and five strikeouts.

Brett Kreyer started for Lafayette and went five innings with two runs allowed on five hits, along with three strikeouts. David Giusti threw an inning with three runs allowed on two hits. Andrew Marra gave up one run on two hits in a third of an inning. Kyle Subers (0-2) went 1.1 innings with one run allowed on three walks and two strikeouts. John Faraci recorded the final out for the Leopards.
