SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader with Harvard at Russell C. King Field. The Terriers scored six runs in the first two innings of the first game on the way to an 8-0 win. In the second game, Harvard had a 5-1 lead before Wofford rallied with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Crimson held on for the 5-4 win.

Wofford opens the season 6-4, while Harvard is 1-2. In the first game, Wofford was led by
Lawson Hill with two hits and a pair of RBIs.
Nolen Hester added three RBIs and
Hayes Heinecke had six strikeouts in the complete game win. The Terriers had two hits each from
Colin Davis and
Brett Rodriguez in the second game.

In the first game, the Crimson was struck out in order in the top of the first inning.
Colin Davis singled with one out and then he stole second base. With two outs, a single to right field by
Lawson Hill scored Davis for a 1-0 lead.
Nolen Hester walked and then
John Dempsey had an infield single and advanced to second on an error, with one run scoring on the play to make it 2-0.
Josh Congdon was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but a ground out ended the first inning.

Harvard was retired in order on three straight ground outs in the top of the second inning.
Mike Brown led off the Wofford half of the second with a double.
Andrew Orzel was hit by a pitch and with two outs
Brett Rodriguez singled to load the bases.
Lawson Hill had an RBI single and then
Nolen Hester doubled down the right line to drive in two runs. A ground out by
John Dempsey added a run as Wofford took a 6-0 lead at the end of two innings. Both teams were retired in order in the third inning. Â

The Crimson had a double with two out in the top of the fourth inning. The Terriers opened their half of the fourth with
Matt Pagano being hit by a pitch. A strikeout and double play ended the inning. Harvard added a single in the top of the fifth with two outs. In the bottom of the fifth,
Nolen Hester reached on a walk. He moved to second on a failed pick off and stole third base. He was caught stealing home. Harvard was retired in order in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth,
Matty Brown and
Andrew Orzel walked. After a double steal put the runners in scoring position,
Matt Pagano walked to load the bases. All three runners went in motion and were safe on stolen bases, with
Matty Brown stealing home for a 7-0 lead.
Lawson Hill added a walk to load the bases and
Nolen Hester was hit by a pitch to add a run. A fielder's choice ended the inning with three runners left on base. The Crimson were retired in order in the top of the seventh to end the first game.

Hayes Heinecke (2-0) started for the Terriers and went the full seven innings with two hits allowed. He struck out six batters and did not issue a walk.

Harvard starter Buddy Hayward (0-1) threw four innings with six runs allowed on seven hits, along with three strikeouts. J.T. Bernard went two innings and allowed two runs on four walks and two strikeouts.

The second game began with Harvard hitting a double with one out. A single drove in the run for a 1-0 lead, but the Crimson left two runners on base. Wofford had the bases loaded in the bottom of the first after singles by
Colin Davis and
Brett Rodriguez, along with a walk by
Nolen Hester. A foul out ended the scoring chance. The Crimson left two runners on base in the top of the second inning after a pair of singles.

Wofford left one runner on base in the bottom of the second after
Reed Massey was hit by a pitch. The Crimson had one runner on base when the Terriers turned a double play to end the top of the third inning. The bases were loaded in the bottom of the third for Wofford after an error, single and hit by pitch. A ground out by
Hudson Byorick drove in a run to tie the game at 1-1, but two runners were stranded in scoring position at the end of the inning.

In the top of the fourth with one out, Harvard had a double. A single scored the runner for a 2-1 lead. With two outs, an infield single put runners on the corners before a strikeout ended the top half. The Terriers were retired in order in the bottom of the fourth. Patrick McColl hit a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning for the Crimson and take a 3-1 lead.

Brett Rodriguez singled with one out in the bottom of the fifth and he stole second. A double play ended the fifth inning for the Terriers. Harvard was retired in order in the top of the sixth inning and Wofford left one on base after a walk. In the seventh, the Crimson was retired in order and the Terriers left one on base after
Colin Davis singled.

Harvard led off the top of the eighth with a runner reaching second on an error. Two singles plated runs as the Crimson extended the lead to 5-2. With two outs in the bottom of the eight,
Hudson Byorick singled and
Mike Brown added a bunt single. A single by
Josh Congdon drove in a run and a single by
Reed Massey added a run to make it a 5-3 game. A single by
Andrew Orzel scored the runner from second to cut the lead to 5-4. A fly ball to center field ended the bottom of the eighth with two runners stranded. Harvard left two runners on base in the top of the ninth after a walk and a single. Wofford was retired in order to end the game.

Jake Zoller started for Wofford and went 1.2 innings with one run allowed on four hits, along with one strikeout.
Jake Hershman (0-1) threw 3.1 innings with two runs allowed on five hits and three strikeouts.
Ty Reginelli added 2.1 innings with two runs allowed on two hits and two strikeouts.
Rasesh Pandya went the final 1.2 innings without allowing a run on one hit with three strikeouts.

Harvard starter Ian Miller (1-0) threw six innings with one run allowed on four hits, while striking out eight. Harrison Stovern went 1.2 innings with three runs allowed on five hits and two strikeouts. Kieran Shaw earned the save by going the final 1.1 innings with one hit allowed and a strikeout.

The Terriers and Crimson will conclude the series on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. with the time change due to rain in the forecast later in the day.
