SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Wednesday, the Wofford College baseball team picked up a 13-5 win over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at Russell C. King Field. The Shorebirds had a 4-3 lead after two innings, but the Terriers scored three runs in the third inning to take the advantage and then scored four runs in the eighth frame to put the game away.

Wofford is 16-7 on the season, while Eastern Shore is 3-19 overall. The Terriers had three hits each from
Mike Brown,
Hudson Byorick,
Andrew Orzel and
Brett Rodriguez. Dillon Oxyer led the Shorebirds with three hits and two runs scored.

After the Shorebirds went in order in the top of the first inning, the Terriers opened with a walk to
Nolen Hester.
Hudson Byorick and
Brett Rodriguez singled to load the bases and a sacrifice fly by
Lawson Hill gave Wofford a 1-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by
John Dempsey added a run for a 2-0 advantage. Eastern Shore responded with four runs on four hits, along with a Wofford error, to take a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the second,
Matty Brown was on third and
Mike Brown was on first when a double steal plated a run for a 4-3 game. A double play ended the top of the third inning for Eastern Shore. Wofford opened the bottom of the third with a double by
Brett Rodriguez. With one out, a triple by
John Dempsey scored Rodriguez to tie the game. A double by
Andrew Orzel drove in Dempsey as the Terriers regained the lead and an RBI single by
Ethan Cornelius made it a 6-4 game.

An RBI double by Eastern Shore in the top of the fourth inning got one run back before a pair of strikeouts ended the half. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, singles by
Hudson Byorick and
Brett Rodriguez were followed by an RBI single from
Lawson Hill to give Wofford a 7-5 lead. The Shorebirds stranded one after a walk in the top of the fifth inning. The Terriers loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth and a single up the middle by
Hudson Byorick plated two runs to make it 9-5. Â

Wofford left two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Shorebirds loaded the bases in the top of the eighth inning, but a ground out ended the scoring chance. In the bottom of the eighth, Wofford had three hits and scored four runs to push the lead to 13-5.
Mike Brown drove in two of the runs on a double. Eastern Shore led off the ninth with a walk, but a fly ball and double play ended the game.

Jake Dippold started for Wofford and went 1.1 innings with four runs allowed on four hits, along with a strikeout.
Matt Ellmyer (2-2) worked 3.0 innings with one run allowed on two hits while striking out five.
Anthony Garcia threw 3.2 innings with one hit allowed and five strikeouts.
Jake Zoller threw the ninth and did not allow a hit.

Eastern Shore starter Cameron Bratton (0-4) went three innings with six runs allowed on seven hits. Keith Carpenter threw 1.2 innings with three runs allowed on five hits. Four Shorebirds combined to go the final 3.1 innings with four runs allowed on four hits.

The Terriers will play the first road weekend series of the season at Florida A&M beginning on Friday night in Tallahassee.
