Tallahassee, Fla. – The Wofford College baseball team was defeated 9-4 on Sunday afternoon by Florida A&M at Moore-Kittles Field. The Rattlers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but the Terriers tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh. Florida A&M scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh and added one in the eighth for the final score.

Wofford is 17-9 on the season, while Florida A&M is 11-15 overall. The Rattlers earned the 2-1 win in the weekend series. The Terriers were led by
Lawson Hill with two hits and
Brett Rodriguez with a pair of RBIs. Four Rattlers had two hits each, as the team had 12 hits in the contest. Â

Both teams were retired in order in the first inning and Wofford went in order in the top of the second. With two outs in the bottom of the second, a single was followed by a home run to give the Rattlers a 2-0 lead. After both teams went in order in the third inning,
Andrew Orzel led off the fourth with a single. After Orzel moved to third on an error,
Brett Rodriguez reached on an error and Orzel scored for a 2-1 score.

The Rattlers added an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single. Wofford went in order in the top of the fifth. Florida A&M had had two singles in the bottom of the fifth and runners in scoring position when an error allowed a run to score for a 4-1 game.
Andrew Orzel walked with one out in the top of the sixth inning and moved to third on a single by
Hudson Byorick. A fielder's choice by
Brett Rodriguez scored Orzel to cut the lead to 4-2.

In the top of the seventh,
Lawson Hill and
John Dempsey led off the inning with singles.
Colin Davis reached on an error to load the bases. A ground out by
Nolen Hester plated a run and
John Dempsey scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 4-4. In the bottom half of the inning, four hits resulted in four runs before the Rattlers left the bases loaded with an 8-4 lead. Wofford stranded two runners in the top of the eighth after two walks. Florida A&M added a run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a ground out to take a 9-4 advantage. Wofford went in order in the top of the ninth to end the game.

Cameron Bloodworth started for Wofford and went 4.1 innings with four runs allowed on two hits, along with four strikeouts.
Rasesh Pandya threw two-thirds of an inning with one hit and a strikeout.
Anthony Garcia (0-2) allowed four runs on five hits in 1.1 innings.
Matt Ellmyer recorded one out and
Jake Hershman went the final 1.1 innings with one run allowed on a hit.

Florida A&M starter Josh Barr threw six innings with four runs allowed on five hits. Morgan Mendez (2-1) did not allow a hit in an inning. Jamie Grant worked a third of an inning with three walks. Jeremiah McCollum went the last 1.2 innings without allowing a hit. Â Â

The Terriers will travel to Presbyterian College on Wednesday afternoon before opening Southern Conference play with a home series against Mercer beginning Friday night. Â
