Track and Field Competes at Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams competed on Saturday in the Gamecock Invitational at the Sheila & Morris Cregger Track. The Terriers set three school records during the meet and had numerous top ten finishes.
 
The field events began with William Stout finishing seventh in the javelin at 43.55 meters and he added a 15th place in the pole vault at 4.05 meters. Omar Mingo was ninth in the men's long jump at 6.86 meters and Amber Lust was 15th in the women's long jump at 5.53 meters. Longinus Nnodim was fifth in the hammer at 48.57 meters. Megan Dunn threw the javelin 32.73 meters for an 11th place finish. Austin Lufkin was sixth in the shot put at 16.02 meters and third in the discus at 48.17 meters. Alexandra Burgess took eighth place in the triple jump with a distance of 11.35 meters.
 
On the track, the day began with the 5,000 meters. Cisco Ferre and Ben Boatwright were sixth and seventh respectively. Hannah Steelman won the women's 5,000 meters with a school record time of 15:52.68, two minutes faster than the second-place finisher. Mary Stewart Wilson added a seventh-place finish in the event. Ford McCoy ran the 1,500 meters in 4:03.38 to finish eighth. Madison Paraskeva was ninth in the women's 1,500 meters with Jamie Barnett tenth. Paraskeva was also seventh in the 800 meters.
 
In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Amber Lust set a new school record in the preliminaries at 13.70 and was tenth overall. McLeod Dean was 11th in the women's 100 meters at 11.62, .01 off the school record. Dean was also eighth in the 200 meters at 23.63. In the 400-meter hurdles, Elijah Bull was 12th for the men and Kassidy Morton was 9th for the women. Jaylen Muhammad set a new school record in the 200 meters at 21.37. Walker Gibbs was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. In the final event of the day, the women were ninth in the 4x400 meter relay.
                                                                                                                        
Over 45 teams competed in the event, with almost 1,000 competitors. Teams included Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, South Carolina State, College of Charleston, UNC Asheville, The Citadel, Radford, Coastal Carolina, and Liberty.
 
Next up for the Terriers will be the Southern Conference Championship on April 26 and 27 at Samford.
