MORGANTON, N.C. - The Wofford women's golf team finished up play at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate on Tuesday, as freshman
Becca Earl tied for second place individually, finishing 3-over-par for the tournament.
The event was won by Elon, who finished 33-over-par. The Phoenix grabbed the individual spot as well, as Adel Vadkerti shot an even-par 144.  As a team, the Terriers finished sixth overall and were just five strokes away from sole possession of second place, finishing plus 50 for the tournament.Â
"Watch out when we get a solid No. 4," said Wofford head coach
Angie Ridgeway. "With a tight leaderboard we knew we just needed a solid round today to finish near the top, but came up short with our fourth score."
Earl, the team's low-scorer this spring, opened up the tournament with a 1-over-par 73 on Sunday. The Essex, England, native nearly matched her performance on Monday, shooting a 2-over-par 74 to tie with Gardner-Webb's Linnea Hofgren for second place.Â
Newcomer
Kristine Torralba continued her strong play this semester, tying for fifth place by shooting 9-over-par (153.) The rookie from Manila, Philippines, shot a 79 on Sunday, but finished strong with a round-two 74 on Monday to earn a share of a top-five finish.Â
"We had steady, good play again from Becca and Kristine, joined by
Emma King this week," Ridgeway said.Â
Both
Emma King and
Grace Massengill finished 12-over-par for the tournament. King posted scores of 78 both days while Massengill, who competed as an individual, shot a 2-over-par 74 on Tuesday as
Speedy Kent rounded out the scoring for Wofford.Â
The tournament wraps up the regular season for the Terriers, who will next compete at the Southern Conference Championship on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.Â
