SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College student-athlete
Alec Cargin has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA. which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Cargin, a junior from Lawrenceville, Georgia, has played in 31 games this season with 21 starts at catcher and designated hitter for the Terriers. He has 19 hits, 12 runs scored and 12 RBIs for a .247 batting average. He also had a .348 on base percentage. Cargin is majoring in computer science.
Wofford has now had seven baseball student-athletes honored in the last five years, including
McClain Bradley (2017, 2018), James Plaisted (2015), Matt Ramsey (2015), Derek Hirsch (2016), and Alec Paradowski (2016).
Cargin and Kyle Dockus (Mercer) are the only Southern Conference student-athletes selected this season.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District team is selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Wofford is in the fourth district, which includes schools in Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Nominees must have at least a 3.30 grade point average. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
