Indoor Track and Field Competes at Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in the Carolina Challenge on January 31 and February 1 at the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex. The Terriers had numerous strong finishes in the highly competitive meet.
 
On Friday, Hannah Steelman competed for the first time this season and was second in the mile at 4:47.40. Madison Paraskeva and Sommer McKenzie were 14th and 15th respectively, in the mile as well. Jack Zemp was 23rd in the men's mile at 4:23.56. In the 400 meters, Kassidy Morton was 19th out of 117 competitors at 58.23. Mary Stewart Wilson was 15th in the 3,000 meters at 10:33.85. In the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries, Destiny Shippy was 12th at 8.77 and then posted an 8.75 in the semifinals. Isaiah Ellis was 28th out of 123 runners in the men's 60 meters and was ninth in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles at 8.17 to tie his school record. Elijah Bull ran the 400 meters in 50.25.
 
In the field events on Friday, Kelly Hogan was 11th in the weight throw at 13.44 meters and fifth in the shot put at 11.95 meters. Nate Myers was 8th in the men's shot put at 13.37 meters and ninth in the shot put at 14.09 meters. Chandler Robinson was 13th in the long jump at 5.32 meters and Netanya Linares cleared 3.25 meters in the pole vault.
 
Track events on Saturday began with the 5,000 meters and Taryn Schoen finished first for the women in 18:17.46, while Beck Classey was 13th in 16:23.20 for the men. Georgia McDevitt finished 12th of 126 competitors in the 200 meters at 24.69. Bradford Smith, Jack Zemp and Ford McCoy ran the 800 meters, with Smith leading the group at 1:58.34. Sommer McKenzie was 10th in the women's 800 meters at 2:18.67. The men's 4x400 relay finished in 3:28.61, while the women were ninth in 3:51.36.
 
On Saturday in the field events, Shakaiya Bradford went 1.50 meters in the high jump. William Stout cleared 4.25 meters in the pole vault to place fourth overall.
           
Up next, the teams will be in action on February 7 and 8 at the Camel City Invitational. The VMI Indoor Classic on February 14 and 15 will be followed by the Southern Conference Championship on February 29 and March 1.
