Box Score DURHAM, N.C. - The Wofford women's lacrosse team jumped right into the 2020 season, falling to the 18th-ranked Duke Blue Devils 20-5 in Durham on Thursday night.
Six of the seven Wofford shots were on goal, with four different Terriers registering goals, including
Elisabeth Ralph who netted a pair. As a team, Wofford picked up 15 ground balls and caused nine turnovers, totaling six draw controls in the process. The Blue Devils offense featured nine different goal scorers, including Catriona Berry and Veronica Hineman who totaled four apiece.Â
Duke, who is tied with Colorado for the No. 18 spot in the NCAA Lacrosse Top 25, was ready to go from the opening whistle, scoring the first 11 goals of the contest. At the 13-minute mark,
Kelsey Thompson picked up a ground ball as the Terriers cleared their zone and found
Emma Gentile to record the first goal of her career and the season for Wofford.Â
After Duke answered,
Shannon Wulff earned a free position shot and buried it in the back of the net for her first goal of the year. The Blue Devils tacked on two more before the half, but it was the Terriers who struck first in the second when
Ally Furnari found
Leah Hurley for her first collegiate goal. Ralph would finish strong, scoring the last two goals of the night for Wofford.
The Terriers look to bounce back on Saturday, traveling to East Carolina for a matchup with the Pirates at noon.Â
