Chapel Hill, N.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team played their first match of the year going up against the #2 ranked Tar Heels at the Tar eel Invitational. Plenty of tough matches were played at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

The Terriers got off to a great start as the duo of Will Fullett and Ashe Ray came up with a win against North Carolina's Logan Zapp and Anuj Watane, 6-3. The #1 pairing for Wofford, Omar Williams and Bryce Keim, played a tough match but couldn't come out on top, falling to William Blumberg and Adam Neff, 6-2. Javi Casasolas and Callum Rendle rounded out the double matchups with a 6-3 defeat to Simon Soendergaard and Peter Murphy.

Diego Losada was the bright spot during singles competition. He took down Mark Dillon by scores of 6-4 and 6-3. Ray fell in two straight sets, 6-1 and 6-0, and Rendle also dropped his match, 6-1 and 6-2. Williams played a strong first set only going down 7-6(6), but the second set got the better of him, 6-2.

"It was a really good start to the season for us. Competing like we did against such a high level team in our first match of the year was an important step for us", said coach Rod Ray. "Our doubles was great and I'm encouraged by our singles play. We learned a tremendous amount. Every guy on our team  will improve from these tough matches."

On Monday, the Terriers faced Charlotte in singles and doubles, winning one doubles point and one singles point.
