SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Wofford guard
Max Klesmit has been named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for all contests from Nov. 22-28 after averaging 22.0 points and 3.0 rebounds and shooting 54.2 percent from the floor in road games against a pair of Southeastern Conference foes. The award is selected by the league office.
Â
Klesmit opened his week with a career-best 27 points in Tuesday's 85-74 loss at South Carolina. The Neenah, Wisconsin, native was 8-for-10 from the floor, including a 5-for-7 mark from 3-point range, and went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line against the Gamecocks, adding three rebounds and four steals on the evening. His five 3-pointers and six made free throws were also career highs.
Â
On Sunday, Klesmit scored 17 points to lead the Terriers to a 68-65 win at Georgia for Wofford's first win over an SEC team since 2018. Klesmit scored 15 of his points in the second half, including 11 in the final eight minutes as Wofford picked up the SoCon's fourth win over a Power 5 conference opponent this season. He made all seven of his free-throw attempts to supplant his career high from earlier in the week and again had three rebounds.
Â
Wofford returns home from its two-game SEC road swing to host Richmond on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Kennesaw State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Â
Other nominees: Stephen Clark (The Citadel), David Sloan (ETSU), Alex Hunter (Furman), Jalen Johnson (Mercer), Kobe Langley (UNCG), Ques Glover (Samford), Silvio De Sousa (Chattanooga) and Marcus Banks (Western Carolina).
