CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Catamount Classic on Friday and Saturday on the campus of Western Carolina University. The women were second overall with 142 points and the men were third in the standings at 130.5 points. The teams combined to set five new school records.
In the Friday events,
Tanner Henry and
T.J. Maxey clear 4.10 meters to tie for second in the pole vault.
Netanya Linares added a school record height of 3.50 meters in the women's pole vault to finish second.
Jenna Reid was first in the javelin at 41.65 meters and third in the hammer at 45.32 meters.
Megan Dunn was third in the javelin at 37.99 meters.
Kelly Hogan was eighth in the hammer and sixth in the javelin.
Destiny Shippy took second place in the long jump at 5.52 meters, with
Rylee Jorgensen fifth.
Alexus Atkins was eighth in the 1,500 meters at 4:50.19.
On Saturday in the track events, the women's 4x100 relay team started things off by taking first place in 46.68. The men's 4x100 team of
Jaylen Muhammad,
Sam Larkin,
Isaiah Ellis and
Sam Kamara placing second at 41.33 in a school-record time. In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Kerrington was first in 14.29, with
Destiny Shippy third and
Netanya Linares fourth.
Isaiah Ellis won the men's 110-meter hurdles in 14.57, with
Tanner Henry fifth.
Jasmine Jefferson was second in the 400 meters in 56.20. In the men's 400 meters
Conor Murphy took first place in a school-record time of 48.51, while
Elijah Bull was second in 48.92 and
Sam Larkin was fifth in 49.78
In the 100 meters,
Destiny Shippy was fourth (12.32) and
Madeline McNinch (12.38) was sixth in the women's race.
Sam Kamara was fifth on the men's side in 10.97 and
Jaylen Muhammad was eighth in 11.06.
Janie Holecek was seventh in the 800 meters at 2:19.90.
Kerrington Johnson added a second place in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.53. In the men's 400-meter hurdles,
Isaiah Ellis took first place in 55.14.
Madeline McNinch was also second in the 200 meters at 24.87, with
Megan Dunn fifth in the event.
Conor Murphy was seventh in the men's 200 meters with a time of 22.49.
Josh Hendry won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:02.84, with
Ryan O'Malley third in the race. In the 4x400 relays, the Wofford women took first place in 3:55.35 and the men were second in a school record time of 3:18.87 for the team of
Jaylen Muhammad,
Isaiah Ellis,
Conor Murphy and
Elijah Bull.
For the Terriers in the field events on Saturday,
Kelly Hogan was third in the shot put at 12.23 meters to set a new school record.
Netanya Linares was third in the high jump and
Rylee Jorgensen took sixth place in the women's triple jump.
Christopher Sheppard was seventh in the men's triple jump.
Overall, ETSU won the women's meet with 158 points, followed by Wofford (142), Western Carolina (139.5), UNC Asheville (129.5), North Georgia (72), Tusculum (48), Montreat (13) and UNCG (11). On the men's side, Western Carolina was first with 183.5 points, followed by UNC Asheville (161), Wofford (130.5), Tusculum (79), ETSU (61), UNCG (45) and Reinhardt (16).
The team will next compete at the Southern Conference Championship on May 1 and 2 at Western Carolina.
