BOONE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams began the season on Friday and Saturday at the John Weaver Invitational hosted at the Holmes Convocation Center by Appalachian State. Wofford earned four individual titles during the meet.
Kerrington Johnson led a Wofford sweep of the top four places in the 55-meter hurdles,
Netanya Linares took first in the women's high jump,
Dahlia Cutler won the 400 meters and
Tanner Henry was first in the men's high jump.
In Friday's field events,
Jenna Reid was seventh in the weight throw at 14.55 meters.
The track events began on Saturday morning for the Terriers. In the women's 55-meter hurdles, Wofford took the top four places.
Kerrington Johnson was first in 8.19, followed by
Netanya Linares (8.40),
Marga Van Der Linde (8.57) and
Olivia Bagg (8.58).
Ella Tennant was seventh in the finals of the 55-meter dash at 7.28.
Dahlia Cutler was first in the 400 meters with a time of 59.63 and
Presley Worf was fifth at 1:04.10.
Brooke Sayre took sixth place in the 800 meters at 2:27.71. In the 300 meters,
Marga Van Der Linde was eighth at 42.83. In the 4x300 relay to end the day, Wofford was second in 2:52.89 and fourth in 2:54.18.
For the men in the Saturday track events,
Grant Witherspoon was seventh in the men's 55-meter hurdles. In the 400 meters,
Robert Hilsman was third at 50.61, with
Conor Murphy sixth at 51.53,
Grant Witherspoon eighth at 52.63 and
Zion Bennett ninth at 52.85.
Will Berger was seventh in the 800 meters. The Terriers were fifth in the 4x300 meter relay at 2:27.60.
In the field events on Saturday,
Netanya Linares was first in the high jump at 1.66 meters to set a new school record and
Olivia Bagg was fifth at 1.52 meters.
Tanner Henry won the men's high jump in 2.03 meters and he added a seventh place in the long jump at 6.67 meters.
Rylee Jorgensen was fifth in the long jump at 5.41 meters, with
Madeline McNinch ninth at 5.31 meters.
Ellie Sawicki was fifth in the shot put at 12.64 meters.
The meet featured ten schools, including the Appalachian State, Western Carolina, UNC Asheville, Winthrop and Gardner-Webb. In the scoring, Wofford was second on the women's side behind Appalachian State and sixth on the men's side.
After exams and the semester break, the Terriers will be back in action on January 13 and 14 at the Clemson Invite.
