Spring Break Competition for Wofford Track and Field

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams took part in multiple events over spring break, including the South Florida Invitational in Tampa. The team posted numerous top ten finishes in the meets.
 
At the Gotta Run Invite hosted by Southern Wesleyan on April 1 and 2, Destiny Shippy won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.34 and added a first place in the 200 meters at 24.98. Morgan Roberts was tenth in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 12:35.87. Giselle Cruz took ninth place in the discus at 32.34 meters and Chandler Robinson was eighth in the long jump at 5.00 meters.
 
The Newberry Hub City Invitational was held on Friday, April 8 in Spartanburg. Patrick Daly was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 10:59.46. Alexis Rhine cleared 2.28 meters to finish third in the pole vault and Storm Owens was 12th in the discus.
 
On Friday at the South Florida Invitational for the men, Tanner Henry was eighth in the long jump at 6.58 meters and Paul Szuba was eighth in the javelin at 48.54 meters. Josh Hendry took 11th place in the 1,500 meters at 4:13.58. Grant Witherspoon was 12th in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.19 and sixth in the 400-meter hurdles at 56.10. Elijah Bull was ninth in the 400-meter hurdles at 56.99. Conor Murphy ran the 400 meters in 48.96 for 11th place, while Cagan Campbell was 13th at 49.77. The 4x400 relay team was fourth in 3:20.34.
 
The women competed on Saturday in Tampa, with Jenna Reid starting things off with an eighth-place finish in the hammer at 48.27 meters and a second place in the javelin with a throw of 41.47 meters. Rylee Jorgensen was tenth in the long jump at 5.52 meters and tenth in the triple jump at 10.98 meters. Netanya Linares was seventh in the pole vault at 3.40 meters and fourth in the high jump clearing 1.60 meters. Mary Claire Ridgeway was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 11:35.24. The women's 4x100 relay was fourth at 46.55.
 
In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Kerrington Johnson was second at 13.53, Destiny Shippy was eighth at 14.05 and Netanya Linares was eleventh at 14.34. Kerrington Johnson added a fifth place in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:03.31. Jasmine Jefferson was fifth in the 400 meters in 56.66 and Georgia McDevitt was eleventh in the 200 meters at 24.76. In the 100 meters, Madeline McNinch was seventh at 11.88m and Destiny Shippy was right behind in eighth place at 11.92. The 4x400 relay team closed out the weekend with a sixth-place finish at 3:56.83.
           
The Terriers will compete on April 15 and 16 at the Catamount Classic in the final meet before the Southern Conference Championships on April 30 and May 1 in Birmingham, Alabama.
